11/03/2004

Moscow, October, 2004, The market leader in heavy and outsize cargo, Volga-Dnepr Airlines carried Oil-refining equipment with a total weight of 118 tonnes to Oman on one single AN124-100 flight.

The 118 tonnes consisted of four vents for oil-processing, weighing 30 tonnes each. The flight to Maskat Airport (Oman) originated from Venice (Italy) and was chartered by Aircargo Italia - Firenze H.Q and Eagle Global Logistics.

Utilising the unique heavy and outsize capabilities of the AN-124-100 “Ruslan”, the cargo was delivered to the Arabian Peninsula for eight and half hours with a technical stop for fuel in Baku, Azerbaijan".

Being so heavy, the load was mounted onto specially engineered frames to spread the weight evenly across the aircraft’s floor. The technical expertise of the load planners and onboard crew meant that the loading and reloading took just three hours instead of six which saved not only time but money.
