Russian airlines urged to adopt Volga-Dnepr's flight-safety philosophy

Ulyanovsk, Russia, January 25, 2002. The Russian Air Transport Operators Association Safety Committee is to recommend that flight-safety training and procedures developed and implemented by Volga-Dnepr Airlines should be widely adopted by Russian civil aviation operators.

Senior representatives of the leading Russian airlines participated in a Safety Committee session hosted by Volga-Dnepr at its Ulyanovsk headquarters including Aeroflot-Russian Airline's First Deputy General Director Anatoly Volimerets, Domodedovo Airline's flight director Dmitry Shiryaev, Pulkovo Airline's Deputy General Director Anatoly Ivanov, TyumenAviaTrans' Deputy General Director for airline inspections Victor Zaitsev and head of flight safety inspection Anatoly Berezin, Gazpromavia's head of flight safety inspection Alexander Korobov, Aerotrans' first deputy General Director Vassily Sidorchuk and other representatives of the Association.

The delegates were briefed by Volga-Dnepr's deputy General Director Yury Malevinsky, who is the company's head of safety, quality and certification inspection and also head of the Association's flight safety committee. The main objective of the safety Committee is to initiate activity, stimulate Association members' participation in the development and realisation of a unified safety policy.

During the meeting the airline representatives were familiarised with Volga-Dnepr's methods and experience in flight safety management and administration, aircrew cockpit resource management (CRM) training, the performance monitoring system for crews working for a long periods away from base and Volga-Dnepr's specialised and extensive training in profession-orientated English for its pilots and crews.

With the support and guidance of Volga-Dnepr's specialists a critical analysis of the current Russian civil aviation flight safety system was performed for the first time. The results of the analysis will be shortly presented to the civil aviation authorities.

Aeroflot-Russian Airlines first deputy General Director Anatoly Volimerets expressed the general opinion of all participants: "Volga-Dnepr's activities in flight safety meet all of the most strict international standards". Evgeniy Chibirev, the Association president concluded: "It would be very useful to implement Volga-Dnepr's methods in other fields of civil aviation".
