It is responsible for adherence to the highest standard of management, for consolidation of intellectual, finance and information resources, and ensuring economic security. The Managing Company prepares development strategy for Volga-Dnepr Group in general and is in charge of its implementation. It also oversees financial and economic performance of the Group
Volga-Dnepr Airlines operates charter freight services within the Group. Established in 1990 in Ulyanovsk, it was the first private airfreight company in Russia with a unique business model of providing commercial operations using An-124-100 “Ruslan” freighters. By introducing Ruslan freighters into the civil (non-military) market, Volga-Dnepr Airlines established a new international market segment for non-standard (outsize and heavy) cargo transportation. Nowadays, Volga-Dnepr Airlines is the world’s leader in this field and the largest An-124 operator.
Its fleet includes eleven An-124-100/150 Ruslans and five modernized IL-76TD-90VD freighters. This new version complies with the existing and future noise and emission requirements introduced by ICAO and has approval for worldwide operations without limitations. The new IL-76TD-90VDs were built at Tashkent-based TAPO aircraft factory from 2006 to 2010.
Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ customer list includes many of the world’s largest industrial corporations such as The Boeing Company, General Electric, Spirit Aero Systems, Space Systems Loral, Halliburton, Shlumberger, Baker Hughes, Siemens. The company takes an active part in providing support to peacekeeping and humanitarian missions by international governmental organizations worldwide.
In 2008, Engineering Logistics Center was established at VD UK to consolidate service range of the Group and offer a full range of logistics services including multimodal deliveries and specialized outsize and heavy freight logistics.
In 2009, Volga-Dnepr Airlines won the highest award ‘Best Cargo Charter Airline’ of the Baltic Air Charter Association at its BACA Excellence Awards. In March 2010, following the results of the annual survey by Air Cargo World Magazine, the company received its Air Cargo Award of Excellence in Air Carrier category. In April 2013, for the seventh time, the Airline won Wings of Russia Award in nomination “Airline of the Year — International and Domestic Freight Carrier”, while in May, Volga-Dnepr was voted the silver medalist in “High-Efficiency Russia-Based Organization” Federal Contest in nomination “Healthy Way of Life at Industrial Organizations”.
AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), a scheduled all cargo airline, was established in 2004. ABC was the first Russia-based company to start operations of Boeing B747 family freighters. To date, AirBridgeCargo’s fleet includes eighteen B747s (four —400ERFs, three —400Fs, and eleven —8Fs). Among the Company’s key customers are the worldwide leading freight forwarders such as Kuehne-Nagel, Schenker, Expeditors, Panalpina, DHL, Inditex, UPS, Bollore, Ceva.
AirBridgeCargo operates scheduled flights on routes between Europe, Russia, Asia and North America using B747 fleet of aircraft. Its route network covers more than 30 destinations worldwide. ABC connects the largest cities in Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul) with major cargo hubs in Europe (Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris) and North America (Los Angeles, Chicago). All the flights are operated through ABC cargo hub in Moscow Sheremetyevo airport, which gives ABC customers connectivity options and access to extensive carrier’s network, guaranteeing
AirBridgeCargo offers wide range of services for transportation of special cargoes. Over the last few years ABC has strengthened its position at the market, providing transportation for those types of cargo, requiring special handling procedures, such as pharmaceutical products, oversize and heavy equipment and machinery, dangerous goods, live animals, perishables and valuable goods. The Company also offers the possibility to charter Boeing 747 flights in a response to customers’ needs.
The Company is IATA member, IOSA certified and obtains a number of certifications for operations of special cargoes delivery, among them being IATA CEIV, QEP certification. It is also a member of industry-related associations, such as CargoiQ, Cool Chain association and others.
Throughout its development, ABC has achieved strong growth, reporting a compound average tonnage increase of 17% in the last five years and has been awarded with industry awards for its high level of quality performance and growth, both at national and international levels.
Atran Airlines was established in 1942, and is among the oldest Russia-based air freight carriers. In 2011, the Airline joined Volga-Dnepr Group.
Presently, Atran’s fleet includes three B737-400SFs intended for short- and medium-haul airways. The airplanes are based in Moscow and operate scheduled frequencies on routes between Russia and Europe.
Atran Airlines plays the leading role in one of Volga-Dnepr’s key projects, Feeder/Distribution Services. Company’s joining Volga-Dnepr Group allowed to expand service range offered to Volga-Dnepr customers and became the next step towards implementation of Cargo Supermarket strategy.
Volga-Dnepr Technics is a provider of maintenance and repair (MRO) services for both Russia- and foreign-built aircraft. This business was established in 2008 at the premises of existing and new MRO bases to ensure centralization and coordination of maintenance operations by the Group and improve service quality.

Volga-Dnepr Technics’ complex objective is to expand the range of aircraft included on the company’s maintenance and repair certificate and broaden service range and customer base. Maximum flexibility, wide range of services, automation of operations and extensive network of maintenance bases make Volga-Dnepr Technics an attractive partner for Russian and international companies.
To consolidate the organizational and finance resources needed to implement the extensive IL-76 modernization programme, Volga-Dnepr-Leasing was established within the Group in 2004. Owing to the Company’s consistent efforts, Volga-Dnepr Airlines added up five new IL-76ТD-90VD freighters to its fleet, built at the Tashkent-based ТАPО aircraft factory.
The modernized IL-76ТD-90VD is compliant with all current and perspective ICAO requirements and has been approved for worldwide flight operations without any limitations, At present, the new airplanes operate to locations in Western Europe, North America, Australia and Japan which were previously banned for IL-76 operations.
The Ilyushin IL-76 large ramp transport aircraft is the only existing civil freighter in the range of 30 to 50 ton payload capable of carrying outsize cargo to virtually any airport in the world. Over 20 years of operations, this commercial airplane type has been in high demand. The airplane can operate to over 40% of the existing airports worldwide. The extensive modernization programme implemented by Volga-Dnepr Group has extended the operating life of the IL-76 by more than 25 years and reestablished its justified place in the global market.
The Company was established in 1997, initially as a Trucking Division of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, to ensure door-to-door cargo deliveries. Volga-Trucks’ fleet consists of 110 foreign-made trucks of different weight and load capacity and its network covers routes and destination on the territory of Russia and CIS.
The Company provides road feeder services for various types of cargo — temperature-sensitive cargo (including pharmaceutical products), dangerous goods (except for Class 7), oversize and heavy equipment with special loading/offloading procedures required, and consignments under internal customs transit procedures.
From 1995, NIC has been among the largest and fastest growing insurance companies in the Privolzhski Federal Territory. The Company provides insurance coverage for major aviation risks to Volga-Dnepr Group. Its considerable potential is supported by an effective reinsurance system based on close cooperation with leading foreign insurance companies. NIC has also been successful in developing non-aviation types of insurance in the interests of Volga-Dnepr Group and its personnel, i.e. voluntary medical insurance, accident insurance, insurance of motor transport, property and liability.
To provide company personnel and Ulyanovsk citizens with general or special-purpose English training, in 1994, a new training centre was established within the Group — Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ International Training Division. In 2004, the facility received the Aviation Training Centre and was issued with an Extended Education License. Volga-Dnepr International Training is now viewed as one of the best training companies in the industry.
Currently, Volga-Dnepr IT provides education services using 52 professional training programmes for flight and technical personnel of the Group and also other companies in the industry. In addition it offers 80 language training programmes for English, French and German languages. ATC provides training for Instructor Pilots of the Group and tutors from other training facilities across Russia and makes arrangements for hands-on language training in foreign states.
VD Group Corporate University has been established based on Volga-Dnepr International Training.
