Siemens recognises the value of partnership as Volga-Dnepr delivers 57-tonne generator rotor to Kuwait

Siemens, one of the world’s leading suppliers of efficient power generation and power transmission solutions, called on its longstanding transportation and logistics relationship with Volga-Dnepr Airlines to complete the urgent delivery of a 57-tonne generator rotor to Kuwait.

Faced with a time critical delivery deadline to move the rotor from its manufacturing site in Mulheim, Germany, Siemens asked Volga-Dnepr’s logistics specialists to project manage the shipment for its transportation onboard one of the airline’s An-124-100 freighters to ensure the 11-metre long cargo reached its destination on-time.

As part of Volga-Dnepr’s ‘Cargo Supermarket’ service offering, the airline’s solution included organising cargo security screening of the shipment at Cologne Airport, crane hire to load the rotor onto the An-124-100 and taking care of export documentation. The airline also arranged for a crane to be waiting in Kuwait to ensure a safe and timely unloading of the cargo, organised its transfer to the warehouse holding area at the airport, and made sure the crane was repositioned to load the rotor onto a truck for the final leg of its journey.
