Volga-Dnepr Finds the Best Solution to Deliver High Value Industrial Equipment to South Korea

Volga-Dnepr Finds the Best Solution to Deliver High Value Industrial Equipment to South Korea 12/21/2016

Volga-Dnepr Airlines developed a special engineering solution to safely deliver a 22-tonne shipment of industrial equipment used for the production of microelectronics from Orebro in Sweden to Seoul, South Korea, onboard one of its IL-76TD-90VD freighters.

To load the large size piece of cargo, Volga-Dnepr’s engineers adapted a special ramp extension that was originally designed for the loading of aerospace equipment onto the airline’s An-124-100 freighter. This enabled the loading and unloading to be completed by ensuring the shortest possible distance to the IL-76TD-90VD’s cargo door, improving both the speed and safety of the handling processes.

“We successfully transported similar high value equipment last year so this time the loading and unloading was quicker and easier for us,” said Alexey Stepanov, Leading Engineer at Volga-Dnepr Airlines. “In consideration of the shipment’s dimensions of 3.2m in width and 2.75m in height, the cargo was placed in a special container with several holes that enabled us to secure the industrial equipment in the aircraft’s cargo hold. We also took the necessary steps to ensure the shipment was loaded and transported within the required temperature environment of +5 to +25°C. This included providing a hot air blower to maintain the correct temperature in the cargo hold during the technical stop in Nizhnevartovsk, Russia,” he added.
