10/29/2014

Volga-Dnepr Airlines' An-124-100 freighter carrying 48 tons of equipment successfully landed at Yubileyny airport in Baikonur on 29 October at 07:15 MSK. The cargo in its entirety and good condition was delivered to the customer.

Off-schedule landing of An-124-100 Ruslan with the flight enroute Toulouse – Moscow (Sheremetyevo) – Baikonur at Ulyanovsk-Vostochny airport didn’t influence the reliability of cargo transportation and company’s contract obligations.

The consignee representative thanked Volga-Dnepr Airlines for on-time delivery.

According to Airline's Maintenance Department, the off-schedule landing was caused by a performance deviation of one of four aircraft engines. The pilot-in-command took a decision to shut off the engine for the avoidance of emergency. The aircraft proceeded with the mission after the conduct of maintenance check and replacement of engine parts.

АN-124-100 aircraft is famous for its two engine-out capability as well as fivefold redundancy of aircraft manual control system, which contribute to flight safety under any adverse weather conditions and emergency situations specified in Aircraft Flight Manual. Thus, the aircraft could proceed with the mission in case of urgent delivery. The order terms made it possible to perform off-schedule landing at the base airport in order to use the services of in-house maintenance shop.
