AN-124-100 Ruslan all-cargo aircraft operated by Volga-Dnepr Airlines performed off-schedule landing at Ulyanovsk-Vostochny airport in order to conduct maintenance check and replacement of engine spare parts. The aircraft will shortly proceed with the mission enroute Toulouse — Sheremetyevo — Baikonur.

According to Airline’s Maintenance Department, the off-schedule landing was caused by a performance deviation of one of its four engines. The pilot-in-command took a decision to shut off the engine for the avoidance of emergency.

Volga-Dnepr Airlines considers Flight Safety and Accident Prevention as the core priority of its flight operations. Following this concept the pilot-in-command took a decision to divert and land at the base airport in order to use the services of in-house maintenance shop, conduct maintenance check of the engine and trace the prime cause of engine performance deviation.

Such off-schedule landing will not lead to any breach in Airline’s contract obligations.

АN-124-100 aircraft is famous for its two engine-out capability as well as fivefold redundancy of aircraft manual control system, which contribute to flight safety under any adverse weather conditions and emergency situations specified in Aircraft Flight Manual.
