Turbine rotor rapidly delivered to Jamaica

11/01/2013

Volga-Dnepr Airlines swiftly transported a 28-ton turbine rotor from Houston, USA to Montego Bay, Jamaica to support uninterrupted operation of the island’s power supply system.

The rotor was mounted on wooden tooling and loaded to IL-76TD-90VD cargo hold using a mobile crane and a trailer.

The delivery was ordered by Chapman Freeborn, the global freight forwarder. The turbine rotor is an essential part of Jamaican power supply system providing electricity to residential sector, hospitals and government facilities in the northern part of the island.

Previously, the rotor was transported from Montego Bay to Chicago for repair works on board of another VDA freighter, AN-124-100. The flight was performed under the contract between Chapman Freeborn and Ruslan International, a Russia-Ukraine Joint Venture.
