Volga-Dnepr Airlines: A New Step Towards Quality Management System

10/03/2001

3 October 2001. Volga-Dnepr Airlines staged a series of workshops in view of the forthcoming implementation of the corporate quality management system. For a week, top-level managers and QA managers from various corporate functions attended the training course offered by Registr-Consulting, Ltd. of St.-Peterburg, to get familiar with the latest ISO quality-related standards.

ISO 9000:2000 standards were the primary topic on the agenda. Volga-Dnepr has long ago become a transnational group of companies. Further successful integration into the global business community very much depends on the introduction of the state-of-the-art international standards into the company's day-to-day operations. Many of the company's major ISO-certified customers require that Volga-Dnepr obtain ISO 9000 certification.

Volga-Dnepr's plans to obtain ISO 900:2000 certification within the nearest future are further indicated by the introduction of a new senior position - Deputy Director General, Quality Assurance - in late August 2001, coupled with significantly extended responsibilities of the airline's flight safety, quality assurance and certification department. Volga-Dnepr became one of the first Russian air carriers to start implementing ISO 9000:2000 standards.

Few world-known certification organizations are authorized to audit compliance with ISO 9000:2000 standards. These include Lloyd Register (UK), Bureau Veritas (France), TUV CERT (Germany), Marine Shipping Register (Russia). The certificate both confirms that the company is authrized to provide the services in question and acknowledges the high level of such services.
