02/06/2002

February 6, 2002, London Volga-Dnepr Airlines has sponsored a performance by the famous Russian Chamber Orchestra of London, which was attended by Prince Nikita Lobanov-Rostovsky and Diplomats representing Russia, Ukraine, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Khazakstan, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Britain, and Uzbekistan who were welcomed by Alexey Isaikin, General Director of Volga-Dnepr Airlines.

In a stirring presentation at London's prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall, conducted by the internationally famous Thomas Sanderling, and accompanied by the superlatively-talented John Lill OBE on piano, the orchestra played Dmitry Shostakovich's rarely performed Elegy and Polka, followed by Beethoven's Piano Concerto No2 in B flat Op. 19 (soloist John Lill) and Dvorak's Serenade Op.22 to an appreciative audience of 900, including delegates from the Anglo-Russian Trade Federation, clients and friends of Volga-Dnepr and personnel from Volga-Dnepr UK's London-Stansted base.

Established by Russian pianist Olga Balakleets, the Russian Chamber Orchestra of London is comprised of young and talented Russian musicians based in London. Many are prize winners in national and international music competitions and combine busy solo and orchestral careers in Britain and around the world. The orchestra made its debut performance in January 1998.

Speaking at a reception following the performance, Alexey Isaikin said: "Music is a truly international language that we all share and tonight's excellent performance celebrates the new international partnership between Great Britain and Russia and also mirrors Volga-Dnepr Airlines reaching out in the international community."
