Volga-Dnepr ensures a safe homecoming for Silk Way Rally winners and competitors

On 15 September, Volga-Dnepr carried vehicles of Silk Way Rally participants from Ashgabat to Leipzig. The rally started in Russia on 5 September, continued in Kazakhstan and finished in Turkmenistan on 13 September.

Four trucks and fourteen jeeps of foreign rally participants, including Volkswagen team, which won in ranking “Car”, were brought back home onboard an AN-124-100 aircraft.

As part of its involvement, Volga-Dnepr also provided flight dispatch and support services for the rally's joint flight detachment comprising 13 various aircrafts, namely AN-74, AN-74-200, AN-26B, two AN-24, two Cessna-182, as well as Mi-8P, Mi-8T, AS-355N and three AS-350B3 helicopters.

The decision to arrange Silk Way Rally 2009 was made by joint agreement of presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The 4,500-kilometers long motor race was held under the Dakar Series brand and hosted 62 cars and 21 trucks from 34 countries.
