Came the revolution


As China's air freight appeal wanes – no doubt a temporary problem while surging capacity comes back into alignment with export demand – Russia suddenly looks like the place to be. There was an irony in Volga-Dnepr announcing startlingly good year-end results just as they buried Boris Yeltsin, who opened the door to capitalism.

And it appears 2006 was only the start. Airports have now satisfied themselves that the new-look IL-76 is legal, and the success of Ruslan International, the marketing agent for the combined Volga-Dnepr and Antonov Airlines AN-124 fleets, suggests that customers' fears about market dominance were ill-founded.
