Volga-Dnepr Group has announced a 46% increase in sales for 2008 from its charter and scheduled air cargo services, to US$1.4bn.

The group, which owns outsize and heavyweight carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines and scheduled carrier AirBridgeCargo, reported a 25% rise in cargo tonnage year-on-year.

The group transported 267,000 tonnes over the 12 month period, while freight tonne kilometres rose 32% to 1.7bn.

During the past year, the group continued its aircraft fleet improvement programme, with two brand new B747-400ER freighters replacing older B747-200Fs in the AirBridgeCargo fleet.

The company continued to operate two modernized IL-76TD-90VD freighters and provided funds for construction of another three aircraft of the same version.

It also commenced negotiations for a possible order for new AN-124-100Ì-150 freighters.
