No bad news for Volga-Dnepr

Volga-Dnepr Group has announced a 46% increase in sales for 2008 from its charter and scheduled air cargo services, to US$1.4bn.

The group, which owns outsize and heavyweight carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines and scheduled carrier AirBridgeCargo, reported a 25% rise in cargo tonnage year-on-year. Airlines and scheduled carrier AirBridgeCargo, reported a 25% rise in cargo tonnage year-on-year.

The group transported 267,000 tonnes over the 12-month period, while freight tonne kilometres rose 32% to 1.7bn.

During the past year, the group continued its aircraft fleet improvement programme, with two new B747—400ER freighters replacing older B747—200Fs in the AirBridgeCargo fleet.

The company continued to operate two modernised IL—76TD—90VD freighters and provided funds for construction of another three aircraft of the same version.

It also commenced negotiations for a possible order for new AN-124-100M-150 freighters.
