ABC flies into Sweden and Korea

MOSCOW-based AirBridge-Cargo Airlines (ABC) seems to keep on expanding on an almost weekly basis.

As well as recently increas¬ing its fleet size the scheduled cargo wing of Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group is also extending the network coverage of its nine-aircraft fleet of B747 freighters.

On 14 April it launched its first service into Scandinavia, with a B747 freighter flight from its hub at Moscow-Sheremetyevo International airport to Malmo. According to ABC, the freight capacity on the flight from Moscow was completely full.

The carrier said the new destination was added because of the "commitments of sup¬port" received from customers in Scandinavia that require regular cargo capacity to Rus¬sia and on to ABC's other destinations in China, Central Asia and Japan. Malmo airport director Peter Weinhandl remarked: "Air cargo development is something Malmo airport has been strategically working on for a long time."

Menzics Aviation is acting as ABC's cargo handler in Sweden. In a separate development, ABC introduced a weekly B747-400ERF flight between Frankfurt and the Korean city of Seoul via Moscow and Tokyo-Narita on 25 April.

ABC said it expects that the main air freight commodities carried on the route will be high-tech products and spare parts for the automotive industry.
