Volga flies valuable works of art to Moscow

10/07/2010

RUSSIAN all-cargo carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines has organised the movement of 103 paintings between Yere?van in Armenia and Moscow. An AN-12 freighter flew the collection, which included works of art by Wassily Kandinsky and Marc Chagall into Moscow, where they were moved by road to the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts for an exhibition.

The shipment of the 12th -16th century collection was arranged through what Volga-Dnepr Airlines describes as its 'air cargo supermarket' offering.

The insurance value of many of the paintings was more than US$1 million a piece, reaching as high as $6 million for some.

In another logistics tasking, Volga-Dnepr recently fixed all the necessary clearances and permits for aircraft and heli?copter flights needed to support the cars competing in the 4,000km Silk Way Rally between St Petersburg and the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
